UWE PFAFF

(°1947, Denmark)

He spent his teen years in Ravensburg, Germany and has been living in South-Africa since 1970.

Before his art school training in The Cape Town Art Centre (painting and sculpture) and The Ruth Prowse School of Art (sculpting and etching), Uwe already used his technical skills and appreciated the precision of engineering. He also used to be a champion swimmer. In 2000 he became a full time artist. His signature material is stainless steel (with a shiny or painted finish), but he also uses diverse other media.

The artist had several solo and combined exhibitions, received awards, and is represented in numerous collections, for example in Australia and Europe. He was first discovered in 1982 at the Cape Town Triennial.

Uwe Pfaff creates unique dream- driven mythological figures, animals and creatures. He explores the concept of identity and humanity and also the subconscious. In his latest work he thinks about presence and absence. A sense of fun and humour is always present in his work. The artist hopes viewers enjoy interacting with his works and touching them.

“THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND IS A WELL OF UNIVERSAL MYTHOLOGIES.”
