FRANK E HOLLYWOOD

(°1980, Utrecht) is a Dutch artist and media personality, working in Amsterdam.

After graduating from the Sint-Joost Academy, he soon pushed the boundaries between free art and commercial work. He acknowledges the thin line between commercial art and fine arts, and this is where the focus of his attention lies. He is famous for his paintings, but also for his inventive customization of objects, such as designer clothing or furniture. The artist uses mixed media: collages, cartoons, graffiti, photomontage … His oil on linen paintings and prints in HD finish on aluminum are wonderful.

Frank E Hollywood has had several international exhibits: London, New York, Karlsruhe, Denmark …

The visual esthetics of the female form are his main subject. There is often something seductive about his work. His hyper-realistic paintings of famous Dutch women are inspired by the Golden Age, but the contemporary luxury items (handbags, Champaign bottles …) reveal the satirical view of the artist on the consumer society. In his art, he is drawing on our collective visual history, to create a modern, unique image.

“MY PAINTINGS ALWAYS MEAN MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE. ART HAS DEEPER LAYERS AND ONLY BECAUSE OF THESE LAYERS, IT GETS SIGNIFICANCE. THAT’S ART. IT IS THE TRANSLATION OF A THOUGHT TO AN IMAGE.”
